The Shack

Having read the book, The Shack, I am wondering what y'all think about it. Please feel free to share your thoughts about this book. On a scale of one to ten, I would give it about a seven. What I appreciated most about the book, was how the author emphasized how we need to have a relationship with the Savior, instead of some religion that favors legalism. I'm waiting to hear what you think! :)

  1. I loved the shack. I think I would give it about an 9. I loved how it revealed a whole new side of God that most christian refuse to acknowledge; a loving God. At the time that I read this book, I was seriously doubting whether or not God was truly good. I found it hard to believe that a good, loving God could send his so called "children" away from him forever. This book is solely responsible for my continued relationship with Jesus. Without it, I would have refused to be connected with Him in any way. The Shack showed me that God's love was not limited by his "Judgement", and that his Love really does conquers all.

  2. Hi Jessi! ^_^

Thank you for posting your thoughts on this! :)Hmmmmm...yeah...it's easy(I think) to sometimes wonder, what with all happens to people, if God cares, or, is loving, for that matter. What made me especially think about this, was when my youth leader was once talking to us about,'Why do bad things happen to good poeple?'I don't think I'll ever forget what he said. He said, "Instead of asking, 'why do bad things happen to good people?', we should be asking, 'Why...does such an awesome and loving God allow good things to happen to bad, sinful people like us?'" That changed my perspective on things. That, and seeing how God can take tragedy and turn it into triumph, as well as to give "beauty from ashes"(check out Isaiah 61:)). Though it still hurts the Heart of God when catastrophe happens (e.g., death, sickness, natural disasters, shootings...) occur, no doubt!

I am so glad that "The Shack" touched you in a profound way! That makes me so happy! I especially love what you said, "The Shack showed me that God's love was not limited by his 'Judgement', and that his Love really does conquers all." Last year I had the opportunity of hearing Paul Young speak here in Sioux Falls, as well as meet him afterwards(It was like a 3-hour wait, but worth it.). I loved his honesty about his own journey with God, and how he articulated to us how God can take our messes and disasters, and from them create something beautiful out of it, something for His glory. Lol, by the time that the conference was over, I was crying so badly. Ha, there was this sweet woman next to me who handed me a wad of toilet paper from her bag so that I could wipe my tears. I have not forgotten the kind act that was displayed from that stranger...it deeply touched my heart.

Hope all is well with you, Jessi! :) I am excited for what Jesus has been doing and will do in your life! Be blessed! :)

    much love in Jesus,
    Jenna
